The St Aubyn Estate, as lords of the manor, exchanged some glebe land fronting St Michael's Terrace and Fitzroy Terrace for land owned by the manor at Milehouse. The cemetery was opened in 1871 and consecrated in October 1876. In 1967 the cemetery was acquired by compulsory purchase order for the Central Electricity Generating Board, after many years of neglect as more and more burials took place at Weston Mill Cemetery.   	The censuses identify that William SERLE (c1812) had married a woman named Louisa and a review of the civil registration indexes in the quarters before her appearance quickly leads to a Stoke Damerel marriage registered in Q4 of 1847; however, the surname of the bride cannot immediately be determined without further research, as of the four couples whose marriages were recorded on that page of the Stoke Damerel register, two had brides named Louisa: Louisa HICKS and Louisa Scriggins PEARCE. Fortunately, the Online Parish Clerk for Stoke Damerel was able to identify the latter as the Louisa who married William SERLE.
